Day 1 Hockey and Distillery Tour

Well the alarm goes off as if it is time for work, but no the Commonwealth Games Campaign to catch as many events as possible into 11 days has begun.

We are up showered, breakfasted and on our way to the train station just after 8am, with the 2 Aussies we met last night, all rather bleary eyed.

You have to get a train in to Centtral Glasgow and then a train out to the various pods of venues so on reaching Central a very chirpy Transport worker says its onlya 10 minute walk to the venue so we decide to get the fresh air and do that, it is already a warm if overcast morning.

Little did we know that 10 minutes in Glasgow really means nearer 40 mins our pace slackens and the Aussies trek on at pace as they are first game on.

We walk past Central Green where big screens etc will have all the action on and will try and get there at some point if possible. As we get closer to the venue the Clydesiders tell us its the FIT games, it will be at this rate a marathon before you get to each event!! Once we arrive the usual ticket checks take place and Clyde is very over excited about his first taste of action.

Amazingly enough as we walk into the arena we meet people we know, Janes friend Ellen and her mum. Ellen was a volunteer in the cycing at 2012 and it has probably been that amount of time since we saw her last.

We watch the Aussie game which theywin easily against Malaysia. It is so hot we think we will either melt or evaporate so take the time to get some water and some shade before England take on Wales.

There is plenty of support for all the home nations in the crowd and everyone is friendly and enjoying the sun. We try and get an icecream and we encounter another food issue as its run out, little did the Scots expect so much sun and sell so much ice cream.

We head back in and take our seats. England win comfortably 2-0 if not very convincing. We are going to have to improve to get near the medals. We say our goodbyes to Ellen and her mum and head back into town.

We get the train we were going to get out and head  back to the B&B. We use the bus as the route is better served than the train, and although I do not really do buses the lady we chat to was very helpful and told is where to get off and others we could use.

A quick cold shower even for the Ozanna as its just sooooooooo hot and we head out for one of our little excursions to a lovely little distillery. By chance it has 2 wee drams included and as I dont drink whisky Miss O is in her element. She now wants to be a stillwoman and work in the industry. Such a beautful place just out of the city. 4 drams later Miss O is glowing somehwat and not just from the sun from the hockey.

We depart and I have to drive, odd for me as Miss O gets travel sick and we find a nice little pub to have some food it. Excellent is was too.

We have found the food in venues much better priced than London and other than the dodgy hotdog pretty good quality wise.

We enter our usual routine when away at multi sports events and catch up on all the highlight shows we can cram in before crashing just before midnight.

Netball tomorrow...................mmmmmmm.......both not sure about this sport
