Friday 3rd August

Day 7 – Up at a reasonably sensible time of 7ish. We both
look tired and weary as we shower, quick breakfast, adorn ourselves in more GB
outfits and head off to Bayswater our favourite tube to shuffle ourselves back
to Wimbledon. A journey we now have sussed out. At the other end we are greeted
by more happy volunteers (wombles) and lots of pointy pink foam fingers. We
also plan today to nab some volunteers to start building our page for Trudy who
will be volunteering at the Paralympics, we are thinking she should blog while
she is away and we think we need to carry ours on for Pride and the Paralympics
as well.

Access this time is smooth and quick, no tickets to collect so
therefore we assume no lost keys. We are there in good time to pop to Murray
Mound to see the atmosphere building for Murrays match later. Julie manages to get
some volunteer pointers from Geoff and Michael, detail of which can be found on
Trudy’s page (please click on photos for tips). We could never have imagined
the wait that would follow!!!!

We take our seats on centre court, different to last time,
further back, but more to the back of the court, so in some ways easier to watch
as there is not as much side to side head turning.

The Federer match gets underway and we think it will be a straight
forward affair, how wrong could we be. After a long set we decide to have a
wander. We see Mrs Murray giving Laura Robson some pointers on a practice court
and have a bite to eat and head back.

The match was finely balanced all the way through and ended
up being a four hour plus marathon affair. Eventually after chances for both
players, Federer triumphs 19-17 in the final set. We then decide to pop and have some
strawberries and cream before getting back to Serena’s match. She has obviously
been asked to get a wriggle on and despatches her match in super quick time. We
have seen her twice now and she is phenomenal, the other girls don’t seem to be
able to more than a few points off her.

The main event now takes to the stage, Murray enters the
partisan arena, there are hopes he can defeat Djokovic, we all know however
watching Murray can be a painful experience so we wait with anticipation for
the game to begin. The Serbs in the crowd make it a football type atmosphere. The crowds in general are still getting to
grips with GB chants, is GB, GB, GB, GB better than GB clap, clap clap, we can’t
decide. Murray, Murray chants are also maintained and the umpire has to call
for quiet on several occasions.

Murray takes the first set and the fans erupt and union
jacks are waved. The second set is close and Murray struggles with his serve all
the way though and we begin to think Djokovic is going to get back into it. However
Murray rallies and goes 0-40 up, the crowd cannot quite believe it, as the next
serve could mean he is in the final, we all hold our breath in anticipation.
Murray wins the point, centre court erupts with a sea of colour and wall of
sound. Not sure about the little Scottish Jig but you can see how elated Murray
is by the emotion and smile on his face.

Another great and long day with more medal success. Can this
trip get any better (I’ll give you a clue, we think tomorrow will).

The tennis went on much longer than we expected and we realise
we have a really early start as we have our first eagerly awaited trip to the Olympic
park tomorrow.

We watch the Olympic update and head to bed.
