Day 3 Track Cycling

YES the day has arrived for the super excitement of track cycling. Tickets that eluded us at the Olympics were not going to again. We have both sessions so eagerly await the action and we are not to be dissapointed.

Breakfast at 8.30am, what a luxury. We opt for fruit again and are eager for the day to progress. Clyde is equally excited as Wenlock and Manderville tell him how lucky he is to go to the veledrome.

We know the route as the verlderome is near Celtic Park where the Opening Ceremony took place. We head off in good timne, through the usual checks and take our seats. We are on the bend into the home straight, you can see the riders and mechanics with the bikes. Inside its hot and loud and the races are amazing, so fast and furious. The determination and aggression they ride in is quite scary. Biggest cheers are for the Scottish Duo in the tandem sprint for Visually impaired or blind athletes (dont worry the one on the front is the pilot and they can see). We also have plenty of English riders to cheer on but it seems as if the Aussies are the team in real form. everyone is cheered on though and the first session ends.

We are back later so head off to find some food. We find a burger van and go with that as there are seats nearby. Once rested we head back where the gates are about to re-open and we head back in. We decide to buy a games T.shirt, it may be needed as need to do some washing sometime soon and not found a launderette close by yet. We also have cider and go and test the Clydesiders knowledge by asking if the routes we are thinking of doing Monday will work. After the computer saying no she finally says yes those routes will work. It is beginning to rain and cloud over so I think Glasgow could be returning to normal weather wise!!

The seats this time are just past the finish line and we can also see Sir Chris Hoy and Victoria Pendelton in their commentory position. The Aussies are winning most things until it comes to the tandem final and the Scots Duo go on and take the Gold after coming back from being one ride down. Fantastic crowd made so much noise to support the efforts that these riders put in. The anthem was emotional and fantastic to be at and much as I love Flower of Scotland we still await a Team England Gold that we attend. Perhaps we saw our full in 2012.The final race is a 40km points race, quite complicated, some 160 laps and 16 sprints but great to watch the tactics.

We watch the final 2 medal ceremonies and then head back to the B&B quite weary but not as hot and bothered.

We have one very manic day on Monday but other days are a little more relaxed. with hopefully time to update the blog if not daily then every other day.

Hope you are enjoying the read so far.
