Paralympic Blog

14th September

Blog is updated, please check out Lara's page if you haven't yet, also updated is our final day, 9th September (also the 8th if you haven't already read it), Wenlock and Mandervilles page.

Please excuse typo's etc as have not checked it all yet but plan to do so as I get some time once I am up to date with proper work!!!!

Photo's yes there are loads to add and may well put those in the photo section rather on these pages (will update once decided and still have final weekends to load)

Thankyou everyone for reading, we are likely to use this for other adventures as it has been a great way to keep a real time diary of events.

The victory ceremony was amazing to watch as was Boris's speach. The "create a generation" line was brilliant. It bought all the memories back and we both cried both with being happy and sad. Proud to be British, yes we are. Lucky with tickets, yes we were. Glad we went, what do you think, would do it all again tomorrow. Go again, dammned right we would. Commonwealth games, Glasgow 2014, registered for, here we come!!!!!

To say we are suffering now from PPD and POP is an under statement. It has been a really, really, really, amazing and emotional experience and something I don't think I can ever really express in words. Anyone who has been lucky enough to be part of it will I am sure feel the same.

More bits and bobs as I get time, especially pics as many of you have said you would like to see these!!!

Any yes myself, Miss O, Lara and Trudy will be getting together to re-live the experience to if you would like to join us let us know on the guestbook on here, date and venue to be decided but it will of course have a Olympic / Paralympic feel.

11th September

Pages updated are Trudy's (really enjoyed reading these, they had to be reformatted into word but worht the faffing about). Lara has been to Excel so we have set up a page for that....more to add once I get the report from her........Saturday 8th September had been done.

To be done Wenlock and Manderville and Sunday September 9th.........and of course pictures...........am planning to do some more on Friday. For those of you who know us well we are planning a get together (Me, Miss O, Lara and Trudy) to re-live all this so if you would be interested in joining us then let us know via the guest book, we want to theme it and make it fun so let us know if you fancy it.

Here are a few classics from Miss O over the past couple of weeks

At we heading to the swimming one day she said "are we going to the aquarium?"

At the athletics she commented on a discus throw she thought had gone further than it had and said it "must be the after bounce!!!"

Now I know she works in a Special Needs School but her specialism is PE!!!! I am beginning to worry.

7th September

OMG note to self try not to have several days to update!!!! Can't be helped though as the work thing and back to back events have not given me time so won't feel bad about it. Not sure I will get photos on today as its now 16.10 and need to pack for tomorrow as back again for our last visit.

What are we going to do when this ends (a combination of POD and PPD cannot be good). At least we have more action tonight and if I feel inclined I may even check to see how England do in the football (this from someone who has been footy mad for 49 years.

What a great time we have had at the Paralympics to date. I have updated the daily pages, Trudys adventures which have been great to read and Wenlock and Manderville.

We are planning a slideshow type event at some point when this all comes to an end. However we want to keep a theme to it so if you think you would be interested in attending please let us know on our guest book on this site.

Happy Reading.

Weekend one - Friday 31st August - Sumday 2nd September

Oh my we thought we had done well with Olympic tickets, our luck in being able to witness the amazing feats of these Paralympics has taken our experience to another level.

The roar of the crowds as parizan as ever was also one of awe and admiration. Have these events being inspiring yes they have, do we have more to come yes we do, Can't wait to take the lads down from school on Thursday and then we have a final weekend of madness in fitting in as much as we can to bring the whole experience to a close. We don't want to close the door on this amazing summer but all good things have to end.

To be continued - daily updates to follow hopefully Friday - the work thing and tiredness have got in the way, we do however now have a guest writer in Trudy so check out her tales from the Manor, they are a great read. Wenlock anc Madeville are catching up on zzzzzzzz's as well but they hope to update Friday as well.

Friday 31st August -

Well what a day yesterday was with 2 gold, 4 silver and 2 bronze. Some amazing performances. Other than getting last minute provisions and going for a cream tea (very nice it was with cucumber sandwiches, scones with jam and clotted cream and an array of cakes) we were glude to the TV from early till late.

I have to say I have gained an enourmous amount of knowledge about how the athletes are classified and hadn't realised how complex these can be, and the fact they can be challenged.

The covertage on C4 and More4 has been really good and its great to listen to the pundits who for me are enhancing my knowledge and enjoyment of events.

After only watching highlights on TV late at night whilst at the Olympics it was nice to have the whole day coverage as you whipped from event to event to catch the action.

So we are ready to go today, looking forward to an athletics session this evening, the hustle and bustle of the crowds, the smiles of the games makers, police and troops.

London here we come!!!!

Thursday 30th August -

Well here we go again. It seems an age ago since we were in London for two weeks of our lives we will never forget. We have been home for a couple of weeks and Julie has been back to work and Jane has been getting on with school work (she says) in readiness for when the school holidays end.

Our Absolutlely Fabulous cats, Patsy, Eddy and Saffy have seaked out lots of attention in the time we have been back and are probably not too pleased we are off again.

We have also managed to get a long weekend in Manchester where we met our great friends over from Oz as well as many others. We laughed, danced, laughed sang, laughed, talked, laughed, drank, laughed, ate tto much junk food and laughed some more. That was only a few days ago but seems an age.

Here we are now the excitement of being in that stadium beginning again. We watched the opening ceremony last night on TV, different to the first as we were at Hyde Park then and at home last night. It was moving, inventive, thoughtful and emotional. I listen to the National Anthem in a different way now after the emotion of Jess Ennis a couple of weeks ago, and I take my hat off to those who knew both verses. The queen as elegant as popular as ever opened the games. The young man on the zip wire, the blind footnball and one of the first Paralympians lighting the cauldron.

We had tears in our eyes during the ceremony. Stephen Hawkins showing just what can be achieved, and that we can all look to fullfill the potential we have.

We are going to pack today to get ready for our train down to London tomorrow. We have some top events and yes we are still trying every day for those elusive track cycling as it will be one of the only venues we have not been too. We are also looking at trying to go up the Orbit which I think will give an amazing view of the park. We will be catching up with Trudy who will be a games maker at the wheelchair tennis and may be able to catch up again with our Oz friends if a rendezvous can be arranged to link in with everyones travel. Wenlcok will be coming with us and we will be linking him up with Mandeville.

We hope you all enjoy these record breaking games as much as we will. Updates will appear as we can do them but we are very back to back with events so bear with us. We are hoping Trudy will also update us on her adventures as this was all her idea (and Sandra's) in the first place.

Enjoy and be proud, and GO TEAM GB!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As always please add any comments to the guest book. Hope you like the slightly revised design. A prize to anyone who can count all the flowers in the background.
