Sunday 29th July

Bit of a chill out day, boxing possibly later (more on that later), catching up with events on TV. Blog updating. Having a day out at Harry Potter Warner Bros Studios tomorrow. Having a wander round.

Day 2 – Well we have a well deserved lie in. We download the
photos to date and write up a couple of days of the blog, we hope people are
reading it and finding it enjoyable the, more comments the better. Check out
our schedule and any questions for any of the days please ask, use the guest
book comments.

Today we were going to go down to the Mall to watch the road
race, however we decided as we were tired we would watch from the apartment and
get ourselves refreshed for later in the day as we were going unexpectedly to
the boxing in the evening as my nephew couldn’t now get down from London.

We decide to have a McDonalds as we haven’t had one all year
and you can’t beat a Big Mac now and again. Anyway the rain has swept in, we
watch our first medal come in, a silver (Lizzie Amistead) in the Road Racing,
so our spirits raised we head out armed with a brolly to make our way to Excel
the venue for the boxing.

A very smooth journey with no delays. We arrive in good time and there are more of
the very friendly volunteers to show us the way and welcome us with big smiles
and friendly chat, (I think the orange is more of a burnt orange, Trudy we
can’t wait to see you in yours). More airport type security but no queues. A
trip to the Cadbury treat shop leaves me £3.00 lighter for 2 bars of
chocolate!!!!

Having not ever attended boxing before we are not sure what
to expect, we have two weight divisions, 60kg and 69kg and 6 bouts in each
division. First on is a Brit who gets an electric reception from the crowd and
Josh Taylor does us proud by winning 13-9, and the audience erupts into a huge
reception for him. We watch several more bouts the most fiercely contested
being between the USA and France. As we move into the next category we think
along with the Essex guys behind us they have got lost on their way to strictly
come dancing as they dance round the ring but don’t seem to want to punch each
other. The last bout we watch involves the Irish and the arena erupts again. A
close match, which he wins, and gets a huge ovation. We have enjoyed our
evening of boxing, an event we wouldn’t have chosen to have attended but was
entertaining. As we head out we pass the dad of the Irish guy and his elation
bought a lump to your throat. We head back to the apartment with an equally smooth
journey.

We find out on our return we have another medal, a Bronze in
the swimming (Rebecca Adlington)

We now look forward to tomorrow and a diversion from the
Olympics and a visit to Warner Bros Studios to see the Harry Potter experience.
